Chronic Pain in Aging Adults
Effect of Music and Other Audio Recordings for Chronic Pain in Aging Adults: A Randomized Controlled Study
This is a 2-year study through the National Endowment for the Arts. Chronic pain is a significant healthcare concern and is especially prevalent in aging adults. It can greatly disrupt one’s quality of life, resulting in the inability to complete common tasks associated with daily living. Medications for pain management can have unwanted side effects and alternatives to pharmacology for pain management are needed. The purpose of this study is to find out whether music or other audio recordings are effective for better management of chronic lower back pain in adults 50 years or older.
